Melissa Sargent - Studio Owner

Yoga was a positive addition to my life starting in college 30 years ago. There were no studios then so when I graduated and couldn’t take the free yoga classes a fellow college student offered in the gym, I practiced from a book. Being born with just part of my right arm means that I need to continuously work on maintaining symmetry in my body and Yoga not only helped me with that, it helped me with my long distance running, and it helped my mind and emotional well-being. Eventually, studios started popping up in the Twin Cities and I found a hot Yoga class. It only took one class and I knew I found something special.

After years of classes I wanted to teach and deepen my practice. As an Occupational Therapist who worked in rehab settings for over 20 years, Yoga teacher training made sense. It was another avenue to help others with their health and wellness. I went through training in January of 2021 and bought Minneapolis Yoga in October of 2021 (yeah, kinda fast and crazy, ask me for the full story when you take my class😊).

When I purchased the studio, I immediately knew our mission; to welcome students of all background and ability levels. I want every student who walks in our door to feel welcomed and successful. While we are all doing the same postures or moves together, it may look different between each student and that’s beautiful. We are doing it, that’s what matters. Teaching Yoga and Pilates is joyous. I feel grateful for every class I get to take and teach!
